1Teaching Material

Chen:  Hello.

Woman:  Hello. This is Nina. Can I speak to your mom, please?

Chen:  She’s cooking dinner. Please hold on.

Woman:  Thank you.

Chen:  Mom, there’s a call for you.

Mom:  Thank you.

2Teaching Aims

1     Enable the students to make telephone calls in English and get them to know how to behave themselves on the phone.

2     Raise the students interest to learn English.

3     Encourage the students to have good cooperation with one another.

3Teaching contents

1     Hes/ Shes

2     Can I speak to ……, please?  Please hold on.   Theres a call for you.

4Teaching Aids

a tape, a toy Santa Claus, Zoom’ pictures, 2-4phones, pictures, sentence cards,etc.

5Teaching procedures

Step 1. Greeting

T: Good afternoon, boys and girls, nice to see you.

Step 2. Warm-up(Review)

(1) Let’s chant

Boys and girls, let’s chant, please do actions. (P49)

(2)Let’s play

Boys and girls, lets play a guessing game. Please look at my pictures, guess: What is he/ she doing?(最快猜到的学生有奖) He/She is……(answering the phone, writing a letter, playing football, reading a book, listening to music, watching TV, doing the dishes)

Step 3. Presentation

(1) T: Look, what am I doing?(接电话) (S:Youre answering the phone.)  Yes, Im answering the phone. Look! I have 2 phones, I want to make a call to one of you, 我有两部电话机,我想给你们当中的一位同学打电话,Who can try?谁来试试?Please answer the phone.

S1: Hello!

T: Hello, this is Miss He. Can I speak to……, please?

(For twice)

T: I think some of you can understand me,Can I speak to ……, please? well, if we want to speak to Sarah on the phone, 如果我们要跟Sarah通电话(在省略号中加上Sarah的头饰)we can say: Can I speak to Sarah, please?

(学生学说Learn and practice: Can I speak to Sarah, please?)(请学生读一读,纠正发音)

T: If you are Sarah,如果你就是对方要找的人, you can say: Speaking. (Learn to say: Speaking)

T: Can I speak to……,please?

S: Speaking. (给学生打电话,使他们明白用法,并巩固)

a. Lets play a game. The first student sayCan I speak to, please?to the second one. The second student answerSpeaking.”每组前面的一位同学给你后面的同学打电话,说:“Can I speak to, please?”,后面的同学接电话:“Speaking.”接完电话再给后面的同学打电话,one by one一个个轮下去。For example……. If you dont have phones, you can use your pencil-cases instead,or you can put your finger to your ears as a sign to make phone calls.没有电话机可以用铅笔盒或者可以用手指代替。我们来开动小火车,看哪列小火车开得快又稳。“One-two-three!

b. TPlease make a call to your friend with: Can I speak to ……, please?    Speaking.”我们来用这两个句子打电话找朋友,你想给谁打电话?

(2)You do very well. Look! This is my mom, 这是我的妈妈,who want to make a call to my mom? 谁来给我的妈妈打个电话?(Picture: Mom is cooking dinner.)(图妈妈做饭,句型卡,电话机)

T: Hello!

S: Hi! This is… Can I speak to your mom, please?

T: (Show moms picture) Shes cooking dinner. Please hold on.(她在做饭,请稍等。)

 (Learn and practice: Shes cooking dinner. Please hold on.) You should say Thank you to me.(先把这两个句子分开请学生读,会读后两句连起来读,并提醒学生要说:“Thank you”)

(会读后请学生试试给Sarah打电话)

T: Make a call to Sarah with your paterner.(Picture: Saran is doing the dishes.)(图Sarah洗碗,以及头饰图)奖励能编对话的学生。

(3)This is our friend JohnJohn头饰)What is he doing? John is watching TV, who can make a call to him?(Picture: John is watching TV.John看电视,头饰,电话机)

T: Hello!

S: Hi, this is… Can I speak to John, please?

T: He’s watching TV, please hold on.

S: Thank you.

T: John, theres a call for you.(John, 有你的电话。)(句型卡)

(Learn to say: Theres a call for you. )请学生读 (Dont forget to say Thank you! )

Make a call to Zhang Peng.(洗碗)

 

(4) Review the 4 sentences (Can I speak to…, please?  She’s cooking dinner.  Please hold on.  There’s a call for you.)

(5)a. Let’s have a rest. Please listen to the dialogue with the following questions in mind:

What is Chen Jie doing?

What is Chen Jie’s mom doing?

b. Please read the dialogue by yourselves.

c. Play the game: Throwing Puppy (To see if the students can say the sentences well.)

T: Its a cute puppy. I will throw it to one of you. When you catch it, you must say one of the sentences on the blackboard, and then throw the puppy to another student.这是一只可爱的小猫,我会把它扔给你们当中的一位同学,拿到它的同学必须读出黑板上的一个句子,然后再把它扔给其他同学,Dont throw it on the floor, 不要把它扔在地上,Are you ready? 准备好了吗?Lets beging!

d. Please act out the dialogue in roles, and you can add sentences as many as you can.Don’t forget to say“Byebye”in the end.

Step 4

I have 3 pictures, please choose a picture, and make a call with your parterner.

Picture 1: Amy wants to speak to Chen Jie’s mom, but she is cooking dinner, Chen Jie answer the phone.

Picture 2: John wants to speak to Chen Jie, she is drawing pictures, Zhang Peng answer the phone. 

Picture 3: Mike wants to speak to Zhang Peng, he is cleaning the room, his dad answer the phone.

Act out.

Step 5 Summary& Homework

Today we learnt how to make a phone call in English, please make phone calls to your friends after school.我们今天学了怎样用英语打电话,请你回家以后用英语给你的朋友打个电话。

Step 7 Ending  Sing a song “What are you doing?”
